The Artist: Lizzy Porter.

“My practice was centered around ceramics and sculpture for the majority of my life, both in Los Angeles, California and Oahu, Hawaii. During the pandemic, however, my practice split along the line of art and craft that ceramics dances along: I began to venture into craft in wood furniture, and into the art of resin painting, which I find to feel like a cousin of ceramic glazes. While glazes and resin align along the fickle layering of color, texture, and depth on three dimensional surfaces, they divert on the scales of tangible to grand landscape, conceptual to representational, organic and gritty to ultra clean and glassy. Resin has offered me a new challenge on technique and new tool to represent the ocean- and mountain-scapes that shape my life and values.”

Lizzy Porter is a resin artist currently living and working in Santa Monica, California. She earned a minor in Ceramics during her undergraduate studies at USC in 2013; her artistic practice is multi-disciplined and has at times included ceramics, glass, metal, wood, and poured resin. Her work is inspired by her life on the ocean: as a beach lover, diver, and kite boarder -- and in the mountains: as a hiker, snowboarder, and dog mom to a lake-loving lab.  She has had the privilege of showing her work at The Other Art Fair Los Angeles (Spring 2023) and seeing her work hung in the homes of friends, family, and other collectors. Beyond her artistic practice and outdoor adventuring, Lizzy works as a sustainability consultant and pursues philanthropy to amplify efforts to better our planet, protect our incredible landscapes, and ensure access to and longevity of these outdoor playgrounds.
